This is a question we get asked quite often and the answer these days is maybe not! There is little doubt that some patients fear a general anaesthetic more than the surgery.

Over the past decade, there have been huge advancements in the provision of cosmetic plastic surgery. What was rare 20 years ago is now often routine. One of these advancements is day-case surgery. Day-case surgery involves the patient undergoing surgery and being discharged on the same day to go home. No overnight stay in a hospital is necessary and many patients opt for this when available as the comforts of their own home might be preferable to a hospital room.

Furthermore, many procedures are now performed under either local anaesthetic or a process called sedation-based anaesthesia, which is less powerful than a full general anaesthetic but still effective at ensuring the patient experiences nothing unpleasant.

At LASE Cosmetic, we offer day-case cosmetic surgery. Our sedation anaesthesia is only provided by consultant anaesthetists who are very experienced. Our state-of-the-art cosmetic surgery facility in Jesmond, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne was created to allow us to offer our services in a safe and comfortable environment. We ensured we passed every CQC stipulation and were inspected prior to opening our theatres.

Sedation allows us to perform operations such as Blepharoplasty, Liposuction, Breast surgery, Facelifts, Skin Tightening and more, safely in our own facility. The patient is not fully asleep and, as such, does not suffer the common side-effects that can accompany full, general anaesthesia. These include sore throat, sickness and vomiting. Patients under sedation do not feel experience pain or discomfort because of the additional use of local anaesthetic.  They usually recover faster and more smoothly, which allows us, after close monitoring, to let them go home the same day. There are studies that show the quicker a patient starts the recovery process actively, the better they recover.

Our facility gives patients the option of having certain procedures as a day-case under sedation. If you are considering surgery, come and visit us for a consultation and we will discuss your options.
