The end goal of neck lift surgery is to create a more youthful-looking appearance

Getting older means we begin to see the onset of facial ageing, not only to the upper face and around the eyes, but also the neck and jawline. While non-surgical treatments such as muscle relaxing injections can help minimise some signs of ageing, skin laxity in patients in their forties and beyond is often best tackled with neck lift surgery.

Neck lift surgery is a long term solution to excess skin around the neck and jawline. It is sometimes combined with facelift surgery or other facial cosmetic procedures. Our surgeons are confident they can help patients improve the appearance of the lower face with this type of facial rejuvenation surgery, although a consultation is required to ensure suitability. We frequently perform neck lift surgery on men so please let us know how we can help you.

Here at LASE Cosmetic in Newcastle, there is a variety of surgical and non-surgical solutions available. If you would like to discuss neck lift surgery and discover how best to improve common signs of facial ageing such as sagging skin.

Description

A neck lift surgery is a cosmetic procedure designed to surgically improve the skin of the lower face and neck area. There are several techniques, but the end goal is essentially the same – to create a more toned and smooth appearance to the neck.

Getting older can lead to mild or severe sagging of the neck tissues. During your initial consultation your plastic surgeon will talk you through your options and tailor a customised treatment plan for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Making the decision to undergo surgical procedures can be a difficult one, and there are many questions you may have. Please read the frequently asked questions below which may answer any queries or ease any concerns you may have.

How can neck lift surgery improve your appearance?

This type of skin rejuvenation surgery specifically lifts and tones the skin of the neck. We can also tighten up the muscles below the surface of the skin if this is deemed necessary by your surgeon. The end goal is to create a more youthful-looking appearance, especially if combined with other anti-ageing treatments such as lower facelift surgery or dermal fillers.

Who is suitable for this kind of surgery?

Surgery to rejuvenate the neck is most commonly requested by patients over 40. We perform neck lift surgery on both male and female patients. A consultation is essential to determine whether this is the most suitable procedure for you.

What happens during neck lift surgery?

A neck lift is a surgical procedure and may take place at the clinic or in one of our hospitals. Your surgeon, who you meet prior to undergoing any form of surgery, makes little incisions before the neck muscles are tightened up. The incisions are closed before you’re taken to recover. This popular type of facial rejuvenation surgery takes 1.5-2 hours, on average, but this may vary depending on the patient.

What is the recovery like?

You might stay overnight, especially if you’ve had general anaesthetic. There will be some swelling and bruising, which is normal, and painkillers can be prescribed to manage any discomfort.

Patients are given full aftercare information, including how to care for your scars and when you’re likely to be able to return to work. On average, patients usually take around four weeks to recover, but this varies patient to patient.

How long do the results of a neck lift last?

Usually, this depends on which neck lift surgery procedure you have undergone, but most of our patients report the results of their neck lift to be long-lasting. It can’t prevent the skin from ageing, but patients who have had neck lift surgery will likely look more youthful in this area for longer than someone of the same age who have not had surgery.

Who should you trust to perform neck lift surgery?

Here at LASE Cosmetic in Newcastle we have a team of plastic surgeons and skin experts ready to treat you. If you decide to go ahead with surgery, our team of skilled surgeons will give you honest advice on how best to book and undergo a neck lift. After which we can discuss the cosmetic surgery neck lift cost.

Can a neck lift be done under local anaesthesia?

Yes. Mini neck lifts and secret scar neck tightening (which uses a combination of liposuction and Renuvion skin tightening) can often be performed under local anaesthetic.

How long does swelling last after neck lift?

It varies according to the type of neck lift performed. Although no guarantee can be offered and all patients are different, in most cases bruising settles within 7-21 days. Swelling is usually a little slower to settle and can persist for 2-3 months in some cases but only rarely does it take longer.

Can you get a neck lift without a facelift?

Yes. Facelift and Necklift are different procedures and although they are often combined, if your circumstances or concerns meant that only a neck lift was recommended this can be done.
