This below article calls for more and robust regulation for the aesthetic industry. It is hard to disagree. At LASE Cosmetic, we have long stressed the importance of the training, the experience and the results of your practitioner.

There have been a few very worrying cases in the press recently, one very local to us here in Newcastle. So, let’s look at how you choose a practitioner. In this blog, we look at our founder and resident plastic surgeon, Mr Ali-Khan.
Plastic surgeons in the UK are trained to a very high standard within the NHS and via fellowships to enhance their skills. Mr Ali-Khan has worked in plastic surgery since 1997 and has trained in some of the most prestigious plastic surgery units in the UK in Bristol, Cambridge and London as well as furthering his skills in Sydney, Australia.
Mr Ali-Khan holds the qualification of FRCS(Plast) – which means he has successfully completed the training required to be a consultant plastic surgeon in the UK. This is one element you should check for when choosing a cosmetic surgeon. Like any profession, specialisation is always an indicator of quality. Mr Ali-Khan chooses to undertake certain procedures and not others. This means he is very experienced in the procedures he offers, and we believe a specialist surgeon is a greater indicator of quality than a generalist.
Membership of recognised national associations gives plastic surgeons the ability to continue their training continuously. Mr Ali-Khan is a full member of both BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons)
and BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons). Once more, this is an indicator you should look for when choosing a surgeon.
Finally, ask your surgeon questions. How many procedures of your type has he or she performed? Do they have independent reviews? For example, Mr Ali-Khan uses Realself as it allows totally independent reviews to be posted without the ability for Mr Ali-Khan to influence them or amend them. See Mr Ali-Khan’s reviews here.
If you are considering cosmetic surgery, come and speak to us in our clinic in Newcastle Upon Tyne. A no obligation consultation is often the best way to get to know your surgeon, what the procedure involves and all the pro’s and con’s associated with your treatment.
