Renuvion® Skin Tightening

Renuvion (formerly J-Plasma) is a less invasive alternative to traditional cosmetic surgery. It uses helium plasma and radiofrequency energy to tighten skin and soft tissue, helping improve results with reduced recovery time and risk. It may be suitable for patients who are not candidates for or do not want excisional surgery.

Skin Tightening Cost

From £2500

Renuvion® skin tightening is a minimally invasive treatment designed to improve skin laxity by contracting soft tissue beneath the skin. Formerly known as J-Plasma, the technology combines helium plasma with radiofrequency (RF) energy to deliver controlled thermal contraction of tissue.

The treatment is used as an alternative or adjunct to more invasive excisional surgery in selected patients, particularly where skin laxity is present, but traditional surgical skin removal may not be necessary or appropriate.

How Renuvion works

Renuvion uses helium plasma and radiofrequency energy to deliver controlled heat beneath the skin, tightening the underlying tissue while minimising impact on surrounding areas.

Key characteristics of the technology include:

  • Targeted tissue contraction
  • Precision delivery beneath the skin
  • Limited surface disruption compared to excisional surgery

Tissue contraction may be noticeable immediately after the procedure, with continued improvement as healing progresses.

What Renuvion is designed to address

Renuvion skin tightening is used to improve mild to moderate skin laxity and contour in both facial and body areas. It may be considered for:

  • Neck skin laxity
  • Upper arms
  • Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Chest

The treatment aims to improve firmness and definition rather than remove large amounts of excess skin.

Scarring and surgical access

Renuvion is performed through small access points beneath the skin, which means scarring is minimal and often barely visible once healed. Because the treatment does not involve large incisions, it can reduce recovery time compared to traditional skin excision procedures.

In many cases, procedures that previously required inpatient admission can be performed as day surgery, sometimes under local anaesthetic, depending on treatment area and extent.

Suitability and limitations

Renuvion is particularly suited to patients who:

  • Have skin laxity but do not require skin excision
  • Are seeking a less invasive option
  • Are not suitable candidates for more extensive surgery

It is not a replacement for surgical skin removal in cases of significant excess skin. Suitability is assessed during consultation based on skin quality, anatomy, and treatment goals.

Combining Renuvion with other procedures

Renuvion may be used alone or in combination with other procedures to enhance contouring results. Combining treatments is considered on an individual basis and planned carefully to ensure safety and appropriate recovery.

Recovery and results

Recovery following Renuvion skin tightening is generally shorter than with more invasive surgical procedures, though swelling, bruising, and temporary discomfort can occur. Results may continue to improve over time as tissues heal and contract.

Follow-up appointments allow progress to be monitored and outcomes assessed.

Consultation and assessment

A consultation allows for detailed assessment of skin laxity and discussion of whether Renuvion skin tightening is appropriate, or whether alternative surgical or non-surgical options would be more suitable.

The emphasis is on clear, factual explanation of the technology, expected outcomes, and limitations, supporting informed and measured decision-making.

Frequently Asked Questions

Making the decision to undergo surgical procedures can be a difficult one, and there are many questions you may have. Please read the frequently asked questions below which may answer any queries or ease any concerns you may have.

Around the world, Renuvion was known as J-Plasma. It is now known as Renuvion, and LASE Cosmetic is thrilled to be able to introduce it to the North East. It is an incredible skin-tightening system that gently heats the ‘fibro-septal’ network under the skin causing it to shrink and tighten without the scars of excisional surgery.

Most areas of loose skin are suitable, including the neck, the arms, the tummy and back, the thighs, and it’s an effective form of chest skin tightening surgery. For the most effective results, the area is treated with liposuction to remove any excess volume before undertaking the Renuvion skin tightening phase.

No, the procedure is performed under a local anaesthetic so you should experience no pain or discomfort during the operation. Afterwards, you will be supplied with painkillers that should keep you comfortable as you recover.

Renuvion can be an effective alternative to excisional surgery in some cases, such as tummy tucks, neck, arm, or thigh lifts. However, traditional surgery may still be needed for more significant excess skin. When suitable, Renuvion can help reduce the need for large scars, general anaesthetic, and hospital stays, while maintaining good results and lowering overall risk.

This brand was created specifically for the Plastic Surgery/Cosmetic market, and during market testing the Renuvion name was a clear winner over the J-Plasma name.  We understand some people still know the product as J-Plasma, but the current and future brand will be Renuvion.

The Renuvion technology started development over 20 years ago under the J-Plasma brand.  This technology has been adopted in a wide variety of surgical applications due to its demonstrated ability to safely and effectively direct energy towards a targeted area while minimising thermal spread to adjacent tissues.

In recent years, cosmetic specialists such as plastic and facial plastic surgeons have used Renuvion in new ways due to its ability to deliver controlled heat to tissue. Many consider it one of the most exciting advancements in the field in the past 20 years.

Renuvion is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses energy to tighten skin. When performed by experienced practitioners, complications are uncommon but may include burns, scarring, nerve injury, pain, infection, haematoma, seroma, gas-related swelling (crepitus), asymmetry, or unsatisfactory results. Risks may be higher when combined with other devices or in areas with previous procedures, and individual results can vary.

The Renuvion system delivers radiofrequency energy and helium plasma for cutting, coagulation, and tissue tightening during surgery. It is approved for general surgical use rather than for specific areas or indications.

During a Renuvion treatment, a thin wand is inserted at small entry points at the target area (similar to liposuction) and the energy is applied underneath the skin.

The procedure is performed under a local or general anaesthetic and is usually very well-tolerated and comfortable.

Liposuction & Renuvion® Skin Tightening Review

From the moment I stepped into the clinic I immediately felt at ease. I had a consultation with Mr Iain Anderson, and we discussed my concerns and what result I was hoping for. Mr Anderson was great, discussed everything in detail, and I booked in the have Renuvion with liposuction on my abdomen. The surgery itself was an absolute doddle. I was awake and under local anaesthetic. Mr Anderson and his team of nurses were amazing. I felt so at ease despite being awake, we were all chatting away, and it was very relaxed. They explained what they were doing at each step and before I knew it I was back in the recovery room drinking tea and eating biscuits. Thank you Mr Anderson for your amazing work and for making me so relaxed. And another big thank you to the nurses who were just so lovely. I'm only one week post op so haven't seen the final result yet but so far I'm elated.
